Potato Day at Grade A Gardens, April 23

Want to help stock local food pantries with local produce? Join Farmer Jordan at Grade A Gardens next Sunday, April 23, and help plant potatoes!

Here’s the Potato Planting ‘Party’ info:

When: Sunday, April 23
11-2 PM

Where: Grade A Gardens
9050 NW 62nd Ave
Johnston, IA 50131

What / Whom: We need about 10 people to help plant potatoes — although Jordan says he’d gladly take “up to 20 volunteers, it just means we will be done sooner.”

Why? Food security is a concern for many families in our community. Local organizations that help to feed the hungry, and help stock the pantries of families in need, are always in need of fresh produce to share with their clients. Slow Food Des Moines is working with Grade A gardens this season to plant and harvest a small potato crop to help meet this need.

How: Volunteers can sign up in advance by contacting Jordan directly:
P: 515-554-4306
E: GradeAGardens@gmail.com

Be prepared to get dirty! Wear old jeans and shoes that you do not mind getting very muddy. Watch the weather forecast! We will not be planting if it is raining.

Light refreshments and a snack provided.

More information and the most current updates about the event is on the Slow Food Des Moines Facebook page.
